Introduce yourself - what's your story?

Yoooo I’m Bryce Green,  Rapper, Singer, Songwriter, Troubadour, whatever you wanna call it nowadays lol. I’m originally from Gettysburg, PA but….. Saint Louis birthed the true artist within me.

When did you decide to fully pursue music as a career?

My art began with poetry and that was back in 9th grade. So yeah, I didn’t start to take it serious until my Sophomore year and I went in hardcore trying to increase my vocabulary as quick as possible, study different rappers flows cuz I started out ONLY rapping.

Who was the first person to believe in you?

My mom was the first to believe in me and who was the first to challenge me to create my first song which was called “Crazy”:

“C.R.A.Z.Y that’s my lullaby
when I look into your eyes I just wonder why
you ain’t my girl to cherish to love
I wanna kiss you, hold you, touch you, baby all of the above”

LOL that’s all I remember from that jawn.

How did things change for you since your first release?

Since the  “first release” that started this onslaught of song releases which was “About It” back in August people have really started to lean an ear towards my sound. Every month since then I’ve released a record and the more I release the more I draw people in. It’s blown my mind seeing how my fan base grows with each release. I can’t wait to see what happens in 2020! Releasing music every month of the year! It’s not a joke.

How would you define Bryce Green, the artist?

I’m not what people expect, I’m told that I look overly confident, when in reality I’m ALWAYS seeking validation on whether this track is hot or that track is hot! LOL it’s artistic Insanity. Forreal though I’m mad chill and laid back, I geek out on anime, too many to name, I’m socially awkward or at least I think so at times, lightweight with a drink in my hand, space enthusiast, alien believer, man of GOD, empath who needs the feng shui to be poppin and overall just a go with the flow type of guy. The way Bruce Lee thinks about water……that’s me.

"Pray For Me" is your latest single. What's the story behind this song?

“Pray For Me” all started when I moved to Nashville December of 2018 leaving a relationship behind that meant a lot to me. The girl and I had been through so much and at the end of the day chasing my dreams was the only place where I felt I would find true peace, so I left. That the song in a nutshell. Not knowing what’s best for you, what the right move is, but KNOWING what ultimately will bring you happiness and being willing to do whatever it takes to obtain that, but on my journey knowing that I need someone to pray for me to keep my spirits high along the way.

Could you describe us the songwriting/production process? How was it like to collaborate with Dori Valentine and Luke Arens?

I love working with those two! Talented beyond measure! We literally sat in the session not knowing who we were writing for, what to write about NOTHING. Luke started a track that Dori laid some scratch vocals to and we sat with that for like 10 mins and then someone, I can’t remember who, decided to change up the pace. Luke started producing “Pray For Me” meanwhile I was ranting on how I just moved to the city and about that relationship blah blah blah and boom Dori started off the song with “Rearranged all the furniture in my room, one or twice”. She goes in and lays that down along with the rest of the lyrics that we all created in that moment I harmonize on that part with her which resonated with me SOOO much and our voices blended like butter (butter doesn’t blend but you get what I’m sayin) then it all went from there! Dori is so detailed with the lyrics and Luke is such a powerhouse when it comes to production and melodies and lyrics and then of course there’s me (insert sunglasses emoji) but yo seriously…..us three being in that room together, there was just no way we were going to walk out of there without a fire record.

What can you tell us about the artwork for "Pray For Me"?

The artwork for "Pray For Me" started with the amazing photo from my amazing friend/photographer Alyssa (@Thatswhenisnapped.photos). She took this dope picture of Dori writing during a previous session Dori and I had so and the vibe of the photo was so perfect that I had to use it. I created the rest of the artwork inspired by contemporary art technique. Collaging things together creating an aesthetic that best described the song visually. If you look closely at the artwork, at the very bottom is a ripped up picture of the girl I was dating who inspired the song. She ripped up this picture after a big argument we had and I took a picture of it at the time for some reason……smh…..artists.

What do you like the most about this song?

I love the lyrics, and the vibe of this song from the moment it comes on! The pad draws you in, Dori’s voice lays you down gently, the lyrics evoke tears, and the hook and verse give you life and hope ending it off with such a vibe that makes you wanna hear it over and over again.

As an artist, what are the biggest challenges?

My biggest challenge as an artist is knowing that I need to grow, but not forcing it and allowing it to happen naturally free of anxiety. Imagine GOD stepping into a blank universe over and over, atom after atom, eve after eve, and thinking ok, it’s time to create. I have a saying “If you have nothing to live for, create something you would die for” and I truly stand behind that and put faith in myself to make amazing music every time I step into that artistic space.

What appeals you the most about creating art?

The most appealing thing about creating for me is the aftermath. Stepping back and listening to the magic that was created and realizing that I’ve evolved as music frisson scores the music in goosebumps on my arms.

What does music make you feel?

Real, it helps me relate to people and makes me realize that I’m either not so different after all or that I’m weird as hell, which both work for me lol. I almost can’t remember who I was without music, it’s what I’m destined to do…..I truly believe that.

Do you remember a specific moment in your life where music made a huge impact?

Yeah I’ll never forget when this kid DM’ed me on IG randomly and said and I quote:

“My time in the hospital I’ve been listening to ur song "Naomi", "Fear", and my fave one you made "Pray For Me", like bro your music helped me stay calm before my big surgery so I wanna say thank you for giving me something to keep me less scared”.

Reading this just made me want to tend to my craft even more, that if I could just perfectly craft my lyrics and melodies and that if it could help just one person in some way, I would feel complete. I love to give and by creating music that at first I went into for selfish reasons found that it was GOD’s gift to me that will keep on giving, thus becoming my greatest gift of all to the people, my fans which is so weird for me to say…..fans…lol I love yall yo.

What do you want to accomplish as a human being?

If I as a human being can bring my mother, my family the peace that they deserve, if I can change people’s lives for the better, if I can give hope to the hopeless and get people to understand that GOD is the reason for it all. Then my purpose is done. I don’t wanna just live for me as much as I don’t want to die alone (it just got deep), but formal though.

Beside music, what are you passionate about?

Anime…LOL I love Anime that’s why I keep capitalizing the ‘A” look. I have a Dragonball Z tattoo on my left arm, I have like 7 figurines in my studio and I will sit in my room for days watching anime and be at peace. Anime, meditating, reading, outer space, my family, not in that order, but these are all the things that I’m passionate about outside of music.

What lessons did you learn in 2019?

2019 taught me that every brick is essential to building an empire. The good bricks, the not so good bricks, they all work for the greater good and no matter what bricks life hands you, to keep on building and never keep your eyes off of the blueprint that God has laid out.

Any favorite memories from 2019?

Meeting my boys Sammy Martin and Eric Olson. After a missed meeting with Eric we finally link up for coffee and have a dope meeting, as soon as we leave and I make it home he hits me up like “Ay the session we had JUST cancelled, are you free to come through” my response…..”You damn right” and that’s when it all started. Look there are SOOOO many dope people I’ve met this year and dope memories and definitely not discrediting any of them or the relationships that I have with them, but yo, these dudes have become family to me and have helped me grow this year and I wanna give them a special thanks going into 2020!

What are your goals for 2020?

Yo I’m taking 2020 by storm! I’ll be releasing music every month so I’ll probably release 50+ tracks this year. Starting with my first release titled “Sophia” on Jan 21st. The "Pray For Me" video is to be expected which is going to be crazy ummm, more visuals to follow, more shows, merch dropping, giveaways, just MORE MORE MORE. I’m stoked!

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

Love, there is no such thing as too much of it, but there exists too less of it and that needs to change. I love everyone, my enemies and all!
