JANOS
Swedish artist JANOS released his new single “ZERO” on March 20th.
Written by JANOS himself and produced by SoulBase, the new single is an anthem about not letting negative people bring us down.
“It’s not a vindictive song, it’s more like a ‘I do me and you do you’ type of thing”. It’s about maximizing who you are and not listening to haters, fake friends and what society tells you to do. Musically I was trying to channel some groovy, The Weeknd meets Oasis meets Bruno Mars vibe!" says JANOS.
Travelling back and forth from Oslo, Norway to London, JANOS has found acclaim with numerous notable radio plays, including the BBC, as well as working with Scandinavian composer, music producer and mixing engineer Jonas Kroon (Cezinando, Anna of the North, Billie Van) and SoulBase (Admiral P, Fela) on his upcoming releases.
“ZERO” is now available worldwide.

Introduce yourself - where are you from?
I’m from Sweden, through Oslo and London :D, born in Gothenburg, Sweden!
What's your story?
I got into music through my big brothers basically, also played some piano, switched to guitar in High School and I guess singing has just always been around.
Moved from Gothenburg to Oslo, Norway, got in a couple of bands, got sick of always having to wait for stuff to happen, went solo, moved to London, and now back and forth between Oslo and London, releasing my own music, working with super cool musicians and producers, hoping to take over the world one gig at a time!
Could you describe us your childhood a little bit? Any favorite memories?
I was super into football at like 13-14 so favourite memory is scoring 2 goals ( my only 2 goals haha).
What did you grow up listening to?
Cool shit like Ricky Martin, Enrique Inglesias, got switched over to cooler stuff like Oasis and Guns and Roses through my big brothers!
Do you remember the first record you've ever bought?
Yeah, Dr. Bombay Rice and curry, legit classic! - Jokes, it’s shit!
Do you remember a specific moment in your life where music made a huge difference?
Growing up my dad and sister were sick a lot, so music always helped me cope with that a lot. Always have love for the slow jams because of that! Introspective lyrics always get me too!
When did you start making music?
Wrote my first song with my sister when I was 15!
Who was the first person to ever believe in you?
My friends David, Michael and my girlfriend Josefine!
How did your sound and artistry evolve since your first release? What did you learn about yourself since your first release?
OH maaaan, I started off in a rock band trying to write heavy bangers, went solo and started doing more like singer songwriter stuff, moved on to more pop/rock stuff and ended up where I am at the moment which is kinda pop, punk, soul with a lot of rnb/groove going on.
Music is about exploring shit and the best way to do it is by trying out new styles and seeing what fits, so I learnt to be more fierce and not caring too much about how I appear to others, it’s all about trying out what works for you.
"ZERO" is your latest single. What's the story behind this song?
Yeah “ZERO” is about that, not caring what others think, especially when it comes to something you care about. I wrote it in Oslo when I was down, realizing I didn’t have the right kinda people around me so it’s kinda a liberation song too! Musically I was trying to channel some groovy, The Weeknd meets Oasis meets Bruno Mars vibe!
When did you start working on it? Who did you work with?
I started working on it with my band in 2018, late 2018, but we couldnt really figure it out until we got in the studio with Soulbase in Oslo, and started to throw shit around.
What made you want to write this particular song?
Anger, passion and restlessness.
What do you like the most about this song?
Probably the groove and the melody, I like all my songs in different ways but this one feels like something new and fresh too!
What message do you want to give to anyone who feels defeated by society?
Fuck the man and keep going!
What does it mean for you to be an artist?
Freedom and space, the opportunity and gift to speak my mind in my own way, and dance a lot!
How would you describe the Swedish music industry?
Not sure, I think it’s like any industry, kinda cool, kinda boring :D
Any Swedish artist(s) you'd like to recommend?
YESS, Junior Brielle and Amnesti and Beverly kills are cool!!
How do you want to be remembered for?
Vibes and timeless tunes, cool gigs and emotions!
In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?
Everyone doing what they want to while respecting each other!
What biggest lessons have you learnt as a human being and as an artist?
RESPECT and listening to others gets you further!
