Andrea

Andrea is one hell of a talent. I think her new single “Mario” is super authentic, refreshing and edgy. I love how big the production is and I love how the record starts. It is brilliant. The melodies and the lyrics are just incredible. “Mario” is a smash. That’s all there is to say.

Thank you so much Andrea for the chat !

“Mario” is out now !

Introduce yourself - what's your story?

I’m a 21 year old London based singer, songwriter and producer. I was born in Oslo, and grew up in Spain. I started playing guitar when I was 15, and I absolutely loved it. From there I started writing my own songs. There were no producers in my area, so I started recording myself. Which landed me a spot as a music production student in London. Since then I've just wanted to improve my skills and make the best music I can.

"Mario" is your new single - what's the inspiration behind this song?

It is inspired by the harmonies from En Vogue. The modern production style by AUDREY NUNA and Jay-Z.

Could you describe the songwriting/production process for this song? Who helped you create it?

Mario is the result of having a confident day and wanting to save that energy for forever in a track. The writing process varies from song to song, however Mario started as a joke. Using the coin sound which made me think it would be funny to be confident like certain rappers who brag about having an abundance of money. Which is ironic because I'm still broke. The whole song was just about capturing an attitude, which was definitely not planned out, so it was a fast song to write that was never meant to be heard by anyone but me. Then I took the idea to my uncle who I produced it with. And that’s how Mario was created.

What's your favourite lyric on "Mario"?

Flowers don’t mean you’ll be my guy

but consider it a nice try.

What made you want to release "Mario" as a single?

I think it’s a song that deserved to be a single because it’s a weird one.

What can you tell us about the artwork?

It was a fun photoshoot, and the outfit was designed by a great friend called Ruby Hernandez who custom made the jacket from a racing jersey that I thrifted a while back.

As an artist, what is the hardest part? And what is the best part?

Hardest part is people feeling easily entitled to have an opinion about everything I do. The best part is I get to create music I love and would love to hear come to life.

What are your thoughts on today's music industry? If you could change one thing, what would it be?

I love the fact that things are slowly changing for the better in terms of including a more diverse bunch of people both behind and on the scenes. However if I could change one thing it would be to just remove the people who are at the top for all the wrong reasons.

What does singing make you feel?

It makes me feel alive. Its a great outlet to just express whatever im feeling.

You live in London now - how does it affect your creativity?

It’s such a buzzing city, with constant movement. It makes me feel so alive, and it makes me feel like I live in a movie. So I guess with my music its slowly becoming more urban with influences from everywhere around the world.

What's the best advice you've ever received?

You don’t need to know what it is to know what it isn’t.

In your opinion, what would make the world a better place?

More respect. For differences of opinions, lifestyles and wants.

What biggest life lessons have you learnt so far?

To trust my gut feeling. If something feels off or not right, it probably isn't right.
