Hi Elle, how are you? What's your story?
I'm really good! My story is one of a lot of little teeny wins for a teeny artist, frustrations of not being seen, and then work to figure out my place in the world and reasons I do what I do. I've studied music, lived and breathed it, been on The Voice as a teenager, landed small record deals, given amazing opportunities and met some amazing people. I'm in a phase of loving myself authentically and not based off what I think success is - which is what I wrote Clearer about.
What did you grow up listening to?
All things Adele, Joss Stone, U2 (thanks Dad), Christina Aguilera, bit of a random mix really.
When did you know you could sing?
I don't know there was ever a moment, I've just always lived and breathed it. I loved it so much from watching my older brother in music, my mum had me in lessons at 6.
Could you list a few records that influenced the music you are making today?
Malibu- Anderson .paak, Timeless- Kaytranada, For All We Know - NAO & Gold - Cleo Sol.
Who was the first person to ever believe in you professionally?
Probably the first label I worked with- Teamwrk. They really did a lot for me when we worked together and I'll always be grateful.
"Clearer" is your new single - what's the story/inspiration behind this song?
Clearer is about being worn down by old patterns of thinking and being, and choosing self love over tough love. Really believing in yourself, loving yourself, and putting yourself first rather than pushing yourself beyond your limits to please others.
Could you describe the songwriting/production process behind this single? Who helped you create it?
Ethan Reginato on production and co-write & Olivia Dennis co-writing also. This was such an uplifting, effortless session and I think we all met at a similar place in our lives so I felt very seen. They just got it and understood the vision.
What's your favorite lyric on "Clearer"?
Honestly so many good ones, this song is just a big affirmation for me that I need to repeat to myself. I would say "Everything it took to get you here, everything you overcame, the fear/ A little self believing, everyone can see it, enough's enough". This part really is about reflecting on your inner strength and being proud to be where you are and coming out the other side of things you that made you feel like the world was ending.
When did you know "Clearer" had to be a single?
I showed my then manager over coffee that night after the session and wasn't 100% sure on it purely because it was a different sound than I was pigeon holing myself into. As soon as she heard it she was like no this is great. My parents loved it instantly too, so I think it was a clear indication it needed to be worked on.
What does music make you feel?
Everything. Alive, calm, driven, inspired, whole.
What are your thoughts on today's music industry? If you could change one thing, what would it be?
What a mess. Australian artists are so much more deserving than they're given, and while Tiktok can be such a good tool, I just really think some aspects of it have ruined the way things work. Everyone chasing virality and oftentimes those given big opportunities are based off follower counts rather than quality which is a bit frustrating to watch.
As an artist, what is the hardest part? And what is the best part?
The hardest part is falling into the trap of comparing yourself to your peers, this will kill you. The best part is connecting with people and expressing yourself through your art.
What's the best advice you've ever received?
"Your uniqueness is your power" No one else has your voice.
In your opinion, what would make the world a BETTER place?
Kindness ffs. People need to CHILL.
What can we expect to hear/see next?
I've just been to London to record my first EP! After a string of shows this Summer I'm going to be rolling out some tracks off the EP early 2026 and I'm so excited!!
