Laura Pieri

Brazilian-born, New York-based artist Laura Pieri steps into a vibrant new era with Frankie (ON THE DANCEFLOOR), a high-energy reimagining of her acclaimed 2024 EP Frankie. Blending club-ready remixes with the brand-new single “Flown Away,” the project shifts her narrative from survival to celebration, trading pain for power and melancholy for movement.

While Frankie captured a journey of self-discovery in a male-dominated world, Frankie (ON THE DANCEFLOOR) radiates confidence, freedom, and joy—charged with shimmering synths, pulsing beats, and euphoric hooks.

As Laura reflects: “‘Frankie’ was about rebirth and self-discovery; ‘Frankie (ON THE DANCEFLOOR)’ is about embodiment—less thinking, more feeling. It reimagines the songs as a constellation of moods, showing different sides of Frankie’s story and letting her release her inhibitions.”

Hi Laura, how are you? How does it feel like to release this new EP Frankie (ON THE DANCEFLOOR)"

Hiii! I’m good, really excited. It feels very surreal but also complete in a lot of ways. Frankie has been with me for so many years at this point that giving her a send off like this feels both like a full circle moment and also a strange goodbye.

When did you start working on this whole project? When did you have the idea for the concept of Frankie (ON THE DANCEFLOOR)? What made you want to recreate/reimagine some of your past records?

Oh I think it was three years ago at this point! I knew that I wanted Frankie to be a concept project, a body of work, more separate and with a cleaner and clearer identity than the rest of my records. With singles it's a solo narrative delivery, but with a project like an EP you can flesh out a story for a few songs, so I’m able to use each song and weave them together instead of telling stand alone stories. Frankie (ON THE DANCEFLOOR) is the last chapter in that story.

Could you describe the songwriting/production process for this whole EP?

Frankie (ON THE DANCEFLOOR) is essentially a collection of remixes. After having the Frankie EP out in the world for a while, I was looking for a way to close this chapter. The person I am today is very different than the person who made the original Frankie EP, so to properly represent that each of the tracks on Frankie (ON THE DANCEFLOOR) is the inversion of the track from Frankie. For example, the angriest track on Frankie is the most chill track on Frankie (ON THE DANCEFLOOR).

What inspired your EP Frankie (ON THE DANCEFLOOR), and what themes do you explore throughout the record?

I really wanted to give Frankie the absolute best send off I could, and I think her dancing the night away is exactly where she should be left. So much of the original project is mental and about thinking your feelings away, but Frankie (ON THE DANCEFLOOR) is about feeling, moving, and really embodying the theme of rebirth by releasing control.

What can you tell us about the song "Flown Away"? What did you feel when recording it?

"Flown Away" was a track we wrote and recorded alongside the original tracks for Frankie, but it felt a little out of place with the rest of the tracks at the time. She was a little too free, a little too healed, but she fits right in with the remixes.

What do you want people to feel when listening to this EP?

Free to be themselves. Free from their mental restraints.

What can you tell us about the artwork?

We shot the cover in my home studio, and I hand wrote the lettering on the cover so the whole thing really is more intimate. I wanted to offer a glimpse into my internal world.

What can we expect to hear/see next?

Well I can’t reveal much... but I will say that Halloween is my Super Bowl. Stay tuned next month!

Why do you make music? What does music make you feel?

As a multidisciplinary artist, there isn’t another medium that gives me both the freedom and restriction that music does. At the end of the day, I am a storyteller, and music forces me to say all I want and need to in the 3 minutes of a song.
